12th Annual RBA Pillsbury Bakers Plus Grand Champion Creative Decorating Competition

Cakes, drama and more—all live on the exhibit hall floor! Watch contestants showcase their best cake decorating skills while they compete head-to-head for the championship title. Held during the first two days of the event in front of a live audience on the trade show floor, the competition will be judged based on the following categories:

The highest scoring individual, as determined by a panel of judges, will be awarded the coveted Pillsbury Bakers Plus Grand Champion Trophy, sponsored by General Mills. Gold, silver, and bronze medals will also be awarded for the highest three scores in each category. Over $14,000 in prize money will be awarded to competitors and their sponsoring bakeries and affiliates.

Cake & Baked Foods Extravaganza

On your mark, get set…BAKE & DECORATE! Join us for an inspired competition, as All Things Baking and Johnson Bros Bakery bring you the inaugural Cake & Baked Foods Extravaganza. Bake up your best and bring completed products to enter in one or all of the four categories for a chance to win up to $250 in cash prizes.

Categories

Buttercream Sculpted Cakes: Create a 3-D cake made with real cake and buttercream (no Styrofoam dummy cakes accepted), and topped with creative decorations, icings and/or chocolate. No fondant covered cakes – buttercream icing only!  This category will be judged on appearance only.  Cakes should be structurally sound so they can be on display for the entire convention.

Kolache: Contestants will bring six kolache in a flavor of their choice. This category will be judged on both taste and appearance.

Rosca de Reyes: Contestants can make any flavor Rosca de Reyes to be judged on both taste and appearance.

Cupcakes: Contestants will bring between 6 and 12 cupcakes, decorated and staged to win. This category will be judged on both taste and appearance.

Rules & Eligibility

All items must be produced by a licensed bakery, cake shop, restaurant, wholesale facility or culinary school. Contestants may enter more than one entry per category and may enter multiple categories. Cakes must be original and cannot have been used in previous competitions. Items will need to be brought in and  placed on display by 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, and must remain in the competition area until the end of the convention on Tuesday afternoon. The contest registration table is located just outside of the exhibit hall–you do not need to stay with your items once they have been registered. All items will be judged by a panel of professional judges. Winners will be announced during the General Session on Sunday, Sept 9 at 4:00 PM in the Grand Ballroom. Decisions are final.

1st Place: $250 cash prize
2nd Place: $100 gift certificate from Johnson Brothers Bakery Supply
